My large water tower photo is for sale! This large artwork has been on display at ArtWare at 8274 Miramar Road in San Diego, CA. But ArtWare is closing so it needs a new home. The price used to be $8000 (just the frame alone has a value of $4000). It is the water tower in Normal Heights and is framed in a custom-made metal moulding that reflects the look of the tower. It is about 80 inches tall and 53 inches wide. It weighs around 90 pounds.  I'm offering it for only $1500+tax. That is over 80% off.... Let me know or head over to ArtWare as soon as possible.

I finished a 3D oil painting of a green sea turtle. I painted the body with oils in sections on four surfaces of plexiglass, with the back flippers and tail on the deepest surface, gradually coming up and the face done on top with acrylic molding paste, which was also painted with oils. On the top surface next to the head I added an acrylic gel resembling little waves. In the far background (a fifth surface) is a photo of coral. Framed in rustic barn wood measuring about 21” wide and 17” tall on the outside.

July 24th, 2023

If you have ever been interested in a hands-on, in-person workshop on hand tinting black and white photos, you can sign up for one at Bliss 101 at 553 S Coast Hwy 101 in Encinitas, California. It will take place on Tuesday August 15th, 2023, from 6pm to 8pm, and the fee is $35.

In this workshop, I will show you how I hand tint (or hand color) a black and white photo with Marshall Photo Oils using cotton rounds and cotton swabs. I will provide all the supplies, including a 12x18" black and white photo of "Tower 28 Rocks II".

My "Tower 28 Rocks II" is a good piece to work on as we can add additional clouds to the sky; choose to go for a blue sky or warm sunset colors, and it has lots of edges which need some extra attention.

Either call Bliss 101 at 760-487-1900 or sign up on their website.

Update: this workshop has sold out, but you can be placed on a waiting list and with enough sign-ups a second workshop will be held on August 16th, 6pm-8pm

I'm stoked to have finished my Carlsbad sign oil painting on plexiglass. Today I finished framing it with a white-washed wood frame. On the back I created an abstract sky with acrylics, alcohol and alcohol inks. On the front I painted the sign itself with acrylics and oils. The yellow neon tubes all around the sign are represented by iridescent gold which I put on with a syringe. The original is $1200+tax and the prints start from $99, and come in a barnwood reclaimed frame.

On the front I painted the sign itself with acrylics and oils. The yellow neon tubes all around the sign are represented by iridescent gold which I put on with a syringe. The piece still needs to dry for a couple of weeks, but prints are already available.

Two days ago I went out at midnight and got some shots of the bioluminescence that is going on right now during the red tide. This image was obtained by combining about 10 different images with a long exposure of 8 seconds and rotating the camera on my tripod at the same time. The sparkly areas are reflections of the moon on the inside of the curves of waves.

Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, all art shows in April have been either postponed or canceled. Also, the Carlsbad Village Faire - originally scheduled for May 3rd - has been postponed to August 9th. You can check my event schedule here.

I'm pleased to announce that I've been selected featured artist and art ambassador for the Carlsbad Art in the Village show.
The show will take place on Sunday June 28th in downtown Carlsbad, California.

Have a look at this YouTube video that my daughter filmed and narrated (I edited it). She made a mock documentary about me:

I had the honor to be interviewed by Kumeyaay.com! Read the interview here.

My latest YouTube video shows when I colored a 1955 Chevy that I ran into at day 5 during my 2018 California Road Trip at Hales Grove:

Today (11-9-2019) I published my video on how I painted and colored my quintych "Convict Lake" on my YouTube channel.

Check out my latest YouTube video, in which I hand color my "Tower 28 Rocks" with oils on canvas.

On Tuesday September 17th I appeared on CBS 8 in a promotion for this year's Carlsbad ArtWalk, for which I had my mini-quintych of "Welcome to Encinitas" with me. Check it out here.

I finished a new large quintych, from my shot of Convict Lake. This is the first time I used oil glazes on canvas (as opposed to acrylics).

On December 31st, 2018 I went to Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California, to take pictures of one of the sets of wooden stairs that lead down to the beach. My daughter Katie was with me to film the event.

At time 2:53 you can witness some bloopers and stuff that happened.
