On October 9th and 10th I participated again in the La Jolla Art & Wine Festival. One of my pieces that received a lot of attention (and sold several times) was my triptych "La Jolla", shown here framed in barn wood floaters. I captured the image of Torrey Pines State Beach with the La Jolla peninsula in the background only one week before the art show. Another title I considered was something like "Back to Torrey" as Torrey Pines State Beach was the first beach I went to the day after I arrived in California in October 2003!

This is another tall composite image that I created a couple of weeks ago. It consists of 36 black and white photographs. Inspired by the Hawaii Reef image I've created, I wanted to make something with our local ocean creatures. Most of the photos were taken during snorkeling at La Jolla Cove with sea lions on the bluffs, adult garibaldi, the stingray, smaller seabass, spiny lobster and the sardines. I still wanted to add some typical fauna that I wasn't able to capture in the wild. The Birch Aquarium was kind enough to allow me to take pictures of the leopard shark, the large sea bass, the baby garibaldi, the California sheephead, the Pacific seahorse and the white perches. The whole thing was then printed in black and white and painted (the blue background) and hand colored (the rest) with acrylics.
